Named the most dangerous to health cities and countries

factory, chimneys
The British edition The Telegraph named the most polluted cities and countries of the world. Their visit is not recommended because of serious health risks.

The World Health Organization reported in early November that air pollution in Delhi exceeded safe limits by almost 30 times. The concentration of harmful particles smaller than 2.5 microns (PM 2.5) exceeded 700 micrograms per cubic meter. Such particles are smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulphates and nitrates. Such substances cause a turbidity of air, typical of the largest megacities.

For comparison, the highest rate in London is 69 micrograms per cubic meter. Some residents of Delhi compare smog, which stands in the city, with a gas chamber.

However, the capital of India is not the most polluted city in the world. The average annual concentration of dust and dirt here is 122 μg / m3. According to the World Health Organization, Delhi with this indicator is on the 11th place in the ranking of the most polluted cities.

Leading in this list is the Iranian city of Zabol with an annual indicator of 217 μg / m3. On the second line is the Indian city of Gwalior. The top five also included Indian Allahabad, Riyadh and Al-Jubayl in Saudi Arabia.

The most polluted countries in the world according to WHO are Pakistan, Qatar, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Egypt. In Europe, the least clean air in Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia. The level of contamination in Russia was determined by WHO at 22 μg / m3. However, these data are based on the quality of air in Moscow.

The least polluted countries are Australia, Brunei, New Zealand, Estonia and Finland. Stockholm is the most clean capital of the world. In this country since the 1990's, carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by 25%. And by 2050 the authorities plan to abandon fossil fuels. Also, the purity of air can boast Wellington, Canberra, Ottawa, Edinburgh, Montevideo, Tallinn, Helsinki, Monaco and Madrid
