Hello, dear guests!

I was born in resplendent St. Petersburg, and grew up in wonderful Riga.
After graduating from a technical college, I tried many professions, until finally, having received an appropriate education, I became a certified guide.

I'd like to tell you about my beloved city and show it from the most interesting side. Walking through the Old Riga, you will plunge into the Middle Ages, I will walk you through the narrow streets that remember the German, Swedish and Russian times. Riga is simply fascinating with its versatility, baffles historians, archaeologists and architects, makes you think about the sharp turns of fate.

But we wouldn’t get into any corners of Riga, you will be comfortable in this cozy, sweet and hospitable city on Dvina. This is a very harmonious city with a rare sense of peace and quiet joy. In Riga, you can not drive excursions at the pace of the march, walking here, waltzing and circling.

I organize individual and group excursions in Latvia, answer all your questions regarding your holiday in our country.

Welcome to the beautiful Riga!

Town Hall Square - Riga, Latvia

In our time, the Riga Town Hall Square is considered to be one of the largest representative and cultural centers where festive events are organized and high-ranking guests meet ...

Riga, Latvia - Town Hall Square

This square is an integral part of all excursions in the old Riga. Tourist fascinates the architecture of ancient buildings and cathedrals, pavement paving, conveniently located street cafes.

In the thirteenth century, on this very spot was the Market Square, where there were craft workshops, bread, meat and shops, as well as guards reviews, various competitions and festive events were held.

Over time, city leaders imposed a ban on the trade in fish due to an unpleasant smell, and by the middle of the XVI century the shopping arc had been completely eliminated.

In the 14th century, the Market Square was gradually built up, the Town Hall building and the House of Blackheads appeared.

July 1941 became fatal for the buildings of the square. Many buildings burned down and were destroyed by German troops. On the site where the Town Hall was, in the 50s, a building for laboratories was built for the Riga Polytechnic Institute. In 91 of the 20th century, laboratories were demolished and four years later a new Town Hall building, similar to the structure of the mid-18th century, was built at the historic site. In our time, it houses the city services, the City Council and the mayor.

The center of the Town Hall Square is decorated with a statue of Roland, nephew and leader of the troops of Charlemagne. Roland was famous for establishing rather strict and at the same time fair laws in the conquered territories, which is why he is considered a symbol of a just conqueror. Today, the original sculpture is kept in the church of St. Peter, and an exact replica of Ronald is installed on the square.

At the very beginning of the 19th century, urban scales were installed on the square, with the help of which all goods arriving in the capital of Latvia by sea and land routes were carefully weighed.

Until the middle of the XIX century a pillory was located on the square, near which criminals were executed.

In the old days, cameras were located in the basement of the Town Hall, for suspects awaiting trial. There was also a prison for female murderers and malicious debtors. In those days it was the worst places in all of Latvia.

At the entrance to the city mayor's office you can look at the key of the city, which appeared in 2011, on the 810th anniversary of Riga. Residents of the capital brought the keys, which subsequently melted and melted the symbolic key to the city. The key turned out to be so heavy that only famous Latvian athlete Raimonds Bergmanis could lift it.
