In Majorca, the tax for tourists increases

The increased tariff will operate on the island in the "high" season ...

Majorca Port De Soller

The authorities of the Spanish Majorca are planning from January 2018 to double the tax for tourists arriving to the island in the summer season. About this on Thursday, October 26, writes The Telegraph. "Tourists planning to visit Mallorca from May to October will pay between 1 and 4 euros per day, which is almost double the current tax," the British newspaper reported referring to the results of the local parliament vote. It is noted that the decision will come into force already in January 2018.

The size of the tax, as before, will depend on where the tourist lives. So, in a hostel it will be only 1 euro, for cruise passengers - 2 €, in hotels of an average level - 3 euros, and in hotels 4-5 * - 4 €. Children under 16 will be exempt from payment, and in the "low" season - from November to April - the tax rate for tourists will be reduced.

Add to this the unpopular power measure of Mallorca, they said, decided to go because of the deteriorating environmental conditions caused by a large influx of tourists. An increasing number of vacationers have already led to discontent among local residents and even mass demonstrations.

However, the hope that an increase in the rate of tourist tax will help reduce the number of holidaymakers on the island, is unlikely to justify itself, market participants say. According to their estimates, this measure will not affect the flow of tourists in any way, since this is an expensive area that is in high demand, primarily among Europeans, who are unlikely to frighten off such insignificant additional expenses.
