Wall preparation, painter
Probably every adult, at least once in his life, was engaged in pasting walls with wallpaper. Everyone remembers how they ripped off shriveled paper wallpaper with pieces of stuck plaster and scraps of newspaper.

Then they cooked or took a ready-made paste, with the help of which they first glued old newspapers on the wall, prudently accumulated in case of repair, and then, after the newspapers had dried, they glued the wallpaper.
This was the kind of renovation used to be, and it was the norm.

Nowadays, the requirements for the preparation of walls before pasting are dictated by the wallpaper itself. Almost all wallpapers are now glued joint to joint, the materials of the wallpaper themselves are so capricious that any unevenness on the wall gets caught, and even worse at the junction of the wallpaper, as it immediately becomes very noticeable, and the newly pasted wallpaper strives to disperse at the seams or will come off somewhere under the windowsill or at the baseboard.

Therefore, before wallpapering the walls, you should carefully approach the problem of preparing the walls. Many people buying expensive wallpapers from the latest collections do not think about how much money needs to be invested in the walls so that these wallpapers not only hold, but also look decent without emphasizing the flaws of the walls.

But the investment in preparing the wall can be very significant, sometimes exceeding the cost of purchasing the wallpaper itself by several times. In this series of articles, we will show you how to prepare your walls before wallpapering with your own hands.

The preparation of the walls before wallpapering can be divided into several stages.

Stages of wall preparation

  • Removing wallpaper
  • Plastering of walls
  • Puttying the walls

The necessary operations for preparing the walls can be divided into several stages.

Preparation for work

This includes the following operations:

  •     freeing the room from unnecessary furniture (the absence of furniture will facilitate the work and protect it from damage during repairs)
  •     dismantling the skirting board (if the skirting board is wooden and you do not plan to change it, it is better not to touch it, as it may break during dismantling, and it is quite difficult to replace the old wooden skirting board after leveling the wall)
  •     The floor is covered with polyethylene, window sills and batteries are closed. The sockets are de-energized, since the walls will be moistened, and the likelihood of getting on the socket contacts with a wet roller when soaking the wallpaper or touching it with a metal spatula is very high.
