Removing wallpaper

For many, home renovation is about finding something new and interesting.

But taking on the repair, novice craftsmen are faced with the problem of removing old wallpaper and do not finish the job.

As a result, new wallpapers are glued on top of old ones, which very often leads to the appearance of bubbles, peeling and simply unsatisfactory results from their work.

Attention!

Before starting the process of removing wallpaper, it is necessary to de-energize electrical outlets and switches, as well as the telephone line. The voltage in the telephone and electrical network is of great danger when working in a humid environment.

The floor is carefully covered with plastic wrap.

In the process of removing (cleaning) the walls and ceiling, water can get on the floor, so the film is preferably continuous.

Hot water is drawn into the bucket, a roller is taken on an elongated rod.

In this case, the roller is led from bottom to top, and the water flowing down the wall should be immediately picked up by the roller.

Do not let water run down the wall all the way to the floor, otherwise you could ruin your flooring and flood your soda from the bottom.

Use an overlay spatula to separate the old wallpaper from the wall.

In some cases, the old wallpaper after the first soaking is easily separated from the walls without any residue, in other cases it is necessary to soak several times.

After some time, poorly detached wallpaper is soaked over and over again until the glue is soaked and the paper normally begins to separate from the wall.

As a result, the walls should be completely cleared of wallpaper and newspapers.

Then it is removed:

  •     partially peeled plaster,
  •     old dowels,
  •     unnecessary screws are unscrewed,
  •     the telephone wires and the antenna cable are disconnected from the walls.

A visual inspection of the walls is carried out. At this stage, you need to understand how smooth the walls are, whether there are bulges or, on the contrary, depressions.

You can check this if you do not trust your eye, using a level or rule.

We mark the critical places for ourselves. Smooth walls do not exist, so the quality criterion is different for everyone.

What mistake many make when leveling walls

Sometimes the walls have a slope, for example, they are heaped on you or, as it were, fall from you. It is possible that the deviation of the wall from the level is some millimeters, and you previously did not notice this with a simple visual inspection, but only detect it by applying the level.

At this stage, you should think about what is more important to you, an extra layer of plaster and moral satisfaction that you have everything according to the level or saved
money and time (installation of beacons, leveling with plaster mixture, drying).

When checking walls, it must be borne in mind that a wall with a doorway should not have a slope, this will facilitate the installation of the door and additional elements in the future.

On a wall that is free of doors and furniture, a slight slope may not appear. Therefore, first you need to correctly weigh the pros and cons, and only then begin plastering work.
